any advice for running the mile at gym?

I ran a mile two days ago in gym, and I started out pretty good, but then I was getting sick at the end of it. Having trouble breathing right & i puked right when I got into school. We haev to do it under 10 minutes or we fail, and I did it in 12 minutes. I was one of the last people to finish, and I felt ashamed of myself. We have to do it a few times a year & Monday we have to do it again, and in our school we are not allowed to have water outside of the cafeteria & we can only get a drink at the water fountains. My gym teacher does not allow us to go in once we are outside which that means I can't go in to get a drink when I'm thirsty. We can't stop running/jogging. I know I'm young ( 13 ) but I get so tired out so fast, I know I'm not that healthy. I am trying to exercising more. It's just a few weeks ago summer break ended, and to be honest. I did not do anything to prepare myself for gym. Any advice?

- How can I not get tired out so fast

- tips on doing it under 10 minutes

any advice is greatly appreciated (: Thanks in advance ~

Normally, you'd get your body used to running by breaking up the distance and training for it in advance of any race. But since you only have until Monday, you are in a tight spot! Do you have asthma or some other health condition? If so you should let the gym teacher know.

If not, I would recommend pacing yourself: Run slower for the first 3 minutes, run faster for 2 minutes then do it again and you are done. Do not try to chase other runners: run your own race! Remember to stay active throughout the year; try biking for 30 minutes a day as a start if running is too hard. Good luck!
