will paying my payment plan a day late defualt my payment agreement?

I live in Arkansas I made arrangements to pay back taxes I owe, it was due yesterday on the 27th but I had so much going on at the time I forgot to make the payment I made it today but i was reading over the letter they sent and it said my payment had to post marked by the 27th of each month or it would be considered in default I'm thinking surely if the IRS will allow me to pay late the state will also there's usually a grace period for everything at least In in this case I hope so, this was to be my first payment just wondering what will happen, i made the payment with a debit card on the Official payment web site does the post mark date apply to this as well all i own is my suv surely they want try an take that over $1400 and one day late Im thinking since the due date was on a Friday they want expect there payment to process until at least Monday or Tuesday so since I made the payment electronically I should be good right?

Ya. Your in default. I owed taxes and forgot to send it out and I ended up in default. The IRS are douche bags. I don't know how the website works for arknanas, but how it works for utah is the the payment is processed the next business day at 4 o clock so you have to send it in adavance. So for example if your payment was due the 27th, here you would have to submitted the payment by the 26th for it to process on the 27th. The IRS has no grace periods. The best thing to do if your concerned by defaulting is just call them on mon asap and talk to them. Usually you can just set up another payment plan if you have defaulted. But no promises. Good luck.

They deal with way too many people and have to have consistent lines drawn. If they said postmarked by the 27th or you go into default, they mean postmarked by the 27th or you go into default. No, there's no "grace period." You're now in default, and they're probably not going to listen to you saying you had "so much going on."

You can try to call them and give them some reasonable explanation like with this being your first payment, you missed the date by one day, you're sorry, it won't happen again. Maybe they'll let it fly just once, maybe they won't. If they don't say there's a grace period, don't assume there's one. The government does not play games with taxes. If people don't pay their taxes, there's no government.

Anyway, yes, you are almost certainly now in default.
