What political party best suits me, and why?
Okay, so I'm a teenager who's getting interested in politics. I'm not the most aware person when it comes to things like Obamacare and wars that the US gets involved in. I do, however, have some beliefs which may help.
1. I believe that women have the right to choose abortion. (The way I see it, if she was raped, she shouldn't have to carry a baby unwillingly.)
2. I am religious, but I believe that prayer should not be enforced in public schools.
3. I believe that the rich should pay higher taxes.
4. I believe that illegal immigrants should get the opportunity to apply for citizenship instead of immediately being deported.
5. I believe that gay marriage should be legalized.
6. I believe that the US should remain as part of the UN.
7. In the current situation with Syria, I feel like the US should support the rebels by providing medical aid and a military strike should be backed by the UN. (So, we need allies to strike with us)
8. I don't like recreational drug use, but I believe that marijuana should be legalized with higher taxes and restrictions.
9. I don't believe in banning guns. I think that there should be strict background checks, and mental health checks before someone can own a gun.
If there is anything you want to clarify about my political beliefs, go ahead and ask, and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
FYI-- I've taken a few quizzes online, and I got two results saying I'm Democratic, while two other results said I'm Libertarian.
I realize that I'm religious but I also believe in abortion and gay marriage. I'm also a bit confused when it comes to religion, because I believe in God (I'm Catholic) but I'm also open to things like gay marriage. I don't think it makes me less of a Catholic, however.
Thank you to everyone who answered me without being an idiot.

You would fall in line with most Democrats.
Your views are balanced and appropriate, therefore the Republican party will not have you.

The previous posters are correct, as far as American major parties go, you would fall squarely in line with most Democrats. Unfortunately, no one seems to be giving you a detailed answer as to why that is the case aside from stating that democratic ideology yields the same answers you have to given political questions.
Here's the quick political breakdown: Libertarians believe that the government should be as minimal as possible, with very limited powers to regulate both the economic and social structures of our society. Conservatives (generally tied with the republican party in the US) prefer the social sector to be regulated (no abortion, no gay marriage, etc), but want the government out of economic affairs. Liberals are the opposite, generally supporting minimal interference with social affairs, but carefully regulating the economy (its important to note here that a "liberal" in the US is still considered conservative by the rest of the worlds standards, especially in Europe, where socialist ideas (that's when the government actually owns the means of production, rather than private business owners) still hold considerable sway). Finally, you have the populists (sometimes called authoritarians), which as the latter name implies, believe that the government should have strong powers to regulate both the social and economic spheres.
There are advantages and disadvantages to all of these viewpoints. As Americans we're always taught that liberty is a paramount value that we must fight for. The truth is that we don't all agree on what it means to be free. For the libertarian, the government can only take away freedom, and therefore its only legitimate place is providing an army to fend off foreign invasion. For the conservative, the invisible hand of the free market will maximize efficiency and make our country great, but the world is a dangerous place, and it is critical that the stability of our institutions remain intact lest chaos destroys the liberty we worked so hard to acquire. For the Liberal, the state has no right to dictate who you are or what you believe, and moreover, it is unfair that some individual have to suffer institutionalized discrimination because of their race, gender, religion, etc., and so it is necessary that those who benefited from society's structure to give back to those who got the short end of the stick when their liberty was determined at birth. For the populist, liberty is something more fundamental than merely being free of someone telling you what to do--its the freedom from the violence of poverty and disease, from political strife and social apathy, and so they advocate for a strong government which can do whatever is necessary, overriding the will of the people (who often don't know what they want) for the greater good.

Do you believe the president should lie as he has repeatedly done with Obamacare about your inability to keep your own doctor to the destruction of the 40 hours a week as the unions who put Obama into office are or do you write him a pass like those who hand out Noble peace prizes as Obama hadn't really done anything but say as a senator he wanted to cut the US debt rather than raise the debt ceiling?
Should those voting for Obamacare be required to use it with their staffs members? Do you believe that the fascist elitist would put Obamacare on the books be allowed to inflict pain and suffering on others while protecting themselves and loved ones from their hideous, misguided pile of garbage that the country doesn't want?
Do you believe that the as a senator, Obama was just misinformed when he said that raising the debt ceiling from 8 trillion was a demonstration a poor leadership or should he do the country a favor and resign convicted by his own words when he was a fiscal conservative?
Who besides a buffoon would suggest that we keep the man who used chemical weapons against his people and the chemical weapons in his power but just bomb him to make diplomatic solutions next to impossible? Do you really think that is a plan?
If you are for gay marriage, then are you against Muslims who hang gays as a part of their religious freedom?

I would say the party that suits you best is the TROLL party.
member since 2011....only level 2......and I've seen this same question about 100 times.
You try to pigeonhole all democrats as believing this or that.........like if I am a democrat, than I must agree with a set Group of beliefs.
I agree with some of this......disagree with some of it.....and can tell you right off the bat, most of that is clearly not the Republican way of thinking..........so most are apt to call you a democrat-------
so republicans will continue their stereotypes that "democrats" believe all this nonsense.
I see plainly and clearly what you are trying to do here.

You seem to have far more than half a brain cell, and seem to challenge conformist thought and opinion. Thus you are certainly not a republican sheep. Your opinions place you in Democratic side, though remember not to let your political inclinations define you, always challenge what you are being told no matter what source they come from. Really, you are an individual for whom the Democrats appear to be more likely to suit in terms of similarity in ideological direction. Thankfully.. the less republicans the better.

You are in line with Progressive Liberals. Or in other words, a reasonable and intelligent person who is well educated and forms sound opinion from a well educated basis.

okay, as a pro lifer...rape and incest are exceptions to the aboriton rule...however 99.9999% are just inconvenience pregnances...aka murder.
i'm religions and prayer should not be PROHIBITED from school either...teachers can counsel their students on ANYTHING but who they really are if they happen to be christian...i call BS
I believe the rich shoud pay higher taxes but just remember....THEY ALREADY DO but if they are smart they can get by with it. most people are stupid...aka poor.
uhm, with illegal immigrants...if they could apply and be accepted by law they wouldnt' be ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. america turns down anyone with a criminal record....lol aka most of our illegal immigrant that are in our prisons now.
gay marriage, who cares?? yeah, whatever...the UN?? no flippin way..they drag us into their ordeals...lybia??? wth was that about??
syria??? ruck no. we should not support it. i learned my lesson with iraq and i was for that war.
gun laws? i agree but i don't think it will help until people learn to be responsible with their guns..if it's a first time offense what can you do..you know?? we aren't psychic and we are not making guns illegal.
marijuana should be legal because of tax reasons but god i dread the fatalities by newbs...for example, my friends who is an lpn can function better on dope than normal or so she says...i smoke pot which i have to admit was 20 yrs ago i thought the car was moving when it wasn't....
i would have to say you are a democrat though...ugh.

Your believe in abortion and gay marriage but your religious. All those contradict each other if you were truly religious then you would be against those two but I'm being bias because I'm a christian and a republican. But every belief you have is liberal/Democrat accept you beliefs on gun rights that is the only republican/conservative belief you have.
