What does an exclamation mark mean at a server, in vmware - vsphere client?
(Workstation with Win7; most servers are W2K8; vsphere client V5; vmware vcenter server V5.)
In the help function, there are no results when I search for 'exclamation'.
It seems that virtual servers which are down, have a exclamation mark. However, some are up and still have an exclamation mark.

I have been working with VMware ESXi since 3.5 to 5.1. Generally, you can clear the exclamation mark by clicking on the guest and viewing the alert tab. Which should tell you what is going on. Once you view what is going on to cause the alert, just clear the alert and the exclamation point will go away.
