Is it possible to change my Youtube account name to my own without having to connect with Google Plus?
I would like to but, I don't care about Google Plus nor do I wish to connect my Youtube account with an account I'll never use just a tiny aesthetics change.

By default, your Google+ username is also your YouTube username. But you
can change your YouTube username. Just remember you can only do it once:
1 - At the top-right of your page, click the ▼ beside your avatar
2 - Then from the drop-down menu, click on ''YouTube Settings"
3 - Alongside your big avatar display there, click on "Advanced"
4 - If you've got a wacky-looking "Channel URL", click on "Create custom URL"
5 - In the box, type in the username you want, then click "Create custom URL"
6 - Your original name will temporarily still be on the ''Overview'' page, but click
''Return name to [your new username] and disconnect from Google+ profile"
and then click "OK"
You'll now see that your username "AND" channel name have indeed changed.
:-)
Remember: you can only do this once and can never change username again.

There should be an option when you sign up for a YT account that you don't want your name to be your google+ name.
