Help with volleyball tryouts?!?
i am trying out for two different volleyball clubs on the 26th and 27th of this month. i am trying out for the 14s level and im an outside hitter. how do i prepare, like how to make my hitting stronger and more accurate, how to jump higher, how to improve my passing and what to expect at 14s level tryouts because im trying out for two different clubs and im really scared. i want to mak the 14 elite team for this one club its the highest american team but it somethimes goes to national tournaments. im not allowed to play national because i have other siblings but my mom said i can play for this elite team if i make it. this is a good club and i need to be prepared. what are the coaches looking for the most. im 5"8 so im tall but what other things. thanks

I'm a 14s coach at a nationally recognized club. Here's what I'd personally recommend. It's true that you need to have talent and a good volleyball base already (how much you need really depends on the club you are trying out for, but it sounds like the club you want is very competitive). A lot of that needs to come from what you've already learned. But there is sooo much more than that. You need to communicate a lot. You need to be athletic. Be low for every ball and try really hard (i.e. don't let too many balls just hit the ground i.e. serve receive or shanked balls). I look for great attitudes and willingness to learn...in other words, coach-ability. If you think you know it all and that the coach is full of beans, then you aren't the one for me. A lot has to do with your position. As an OH, you pretty much have to have the package...passing, serving, blocking, and hitting (setting hands, not as important). SAQ (strength and conditioning) can help a lot as well....this is the non-volleyball training you can receive (and my players have received) that help with things like your vertical and overall stamina.

You have to be loud, and noticed at tryouts. Wear something bright so you stand out, and then let your skills prove the rest. When you are hitting reach high and swing hard, call loud for the ball and be aggressive. If you get blocked swing again dont tip. Coaches are looking for confident, aggresive players that will work hard. If a coach tells you something try to do it right away, they want a player that is coachable. As for jumping higher, look up jump training workouts to do online. I did air alert and it really worked for me. Be positive when you are playing and prove that you work well with the other girls. Always call the ball, and try your hardest to get a dig or the perfect pass.
Good Luck!
