Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner?

Well the final field has been declared and the draw made for the world's best flat race so who are we all backing to win the Paris show-piece on Sunday? 18 runners go in pursuit of some of the €4million in prize money and in what looks one of the highest quality races ever run. There are 3 Derby winners in the line up: Epsom (Ruler Of The World), French (Intello) & Japanese (Kizuna) along with King George winner Novellist, Eclipse and Prince of Wales' victor Al Kazeem, Von Europa winner Meandre, Grand Prix de Paris claimant Flintshire, St Leger winner Leading Light, French Oaks and Vermeille winning machine Treve and of course the mighty Orfevre who bids to finally claim the Arc for the Land of the Rising Sun. The going is currently described as 'good to soft'. 12 furlongs. Group 1. 3 year old plus colts, fillies and mares. 18 runners. Off time: 15:15 BST.

Number, draw, form, horse, age, weight, trainer, jockey, current odds.

1. (1) 113742 / VERY NICE NAME, 4, 9-5, A De Mieulle - P Convertino (66/1) FR

17. (9) 131131 / INTELLO, 3, 8-11, Andre Fabre - Olivier Peslier (12/1) FR

18. (15) 1-111 / TREVE, 3, 8-8, Mme C Head-Maarek - Thierry Jarnet (11/2) FR

So who will win?

Update 2:

Novellist has been taken out of the Arc. The 5 length, course record breaking winner of the King George does not run due a fever so Novellist is a non-runner. Also the ground is now described as soft.

That shakes up the betting a bit:

2/1 Orfevre, 4/1 Treve, 7/1 Kizuna, 9/1 Ruler Of The World, 10/1 Intello, 12/1 Flintshire, 14/1 Leading Light, 16/1 Al Kazeem, 25/1 Ocovango, 28/1 Meandre, 40/1 BAR.

One filly and one colt against the field:

TREVE - has done everything asked of her winning her races readily, easily, comfortably each time, nobody really knows the full extent of her talent as she has never been beaten in 4 starts. Racing against the colts for the first time this is her biggest test to date..I think she will win.

INTELLO..I have followed the career of this fantastic character since I saw him win the Fielden Stakes at Newmarket at the beginning of the season in April beating King George River, he has progressed to be one of the best colts that Andre Fabre has trained and his last race showed that he gets 11 furlongs easily and the extra furlong will not trouble him. With his preferred going Soft today he is going to take all the beating.

    1st - Orfevre

This horse has so much talent and if he wasn't such a crazy horse he would be a special horse and would've won it last year.

2nd - Ruler Of The World

I thought this years classic colts were another bad bunch after his loss in the Irish Derby but Trading Leather gave them a boost IMO and Ruler Of The World's second in the Niel was a great performance and he was unlucky not to win. I think he and Ryan Moore suit each other.

    3rd - Al Kazeem

He was terribly overpriced at 16/1 earlier in the week and still is despite his draw. He's won 3 G1's and then he loses a couple and he's suddenly 16/1. The Juddmonte just wasn't his day. He prefers left handed courses and the ground was firm at York. The Fugue is a very good filly and it's no disgrace to be beaten by her in the Irish Champion Stakes. 1m4f and soft ground should bring out the best in Al Kazeem and a place is certainly not out of the question.

This years renewal is a very good one and there are several horses that could go close. Intello, if he stays, will be close. Treve might get a few traffic problems with her style of racing. Kizuna is another good Japanese horse and could be in with a shout. This trip might be a bit short for Leading Light and the horses in the field will be to good and fast for him. Flintshire won't like the soft ground so I don't think he'll go close. Ocovango might be an outsider to be there at the end.

    1 Treve

fillies used to win the arc quite often a few years ago and i'm taking treve to come late and fast to take it near the line

    2 Ruler of the world

unlucky last time in france when he got stopped at a vital moment

can give the derby form a much needed boost

    3 Orfevre

japanese horses have always looked world beaters leading up to the arc but just fall short in the big one

    good luck

Hi Charles,I did like the look of Al Kazeem each-way,but the high draw of 18 has put me off a bit. Will still back it though as it will be staying on at the finish.

The Fabre/Peslier combination have Intello another each-way player for me,both double figures so worth a wee punt.Good luck.

I'm for Ruler of the World, especially now Frankie can't ride Treve. Otherwise that would have been for me.

Perhaps Joshua Tree because you can't ever rule out Richard Hughes.
