why protien is importand in evolution in life on earth ?

    To add to Spongbob's answer... Proteins do NOT make up everything but proteins do make up ALL forms of life we know of (all life on earth).

    We have very very little direct evidence for what was going on here on earth when life first appeared. We do know from scientific studies that were done decades ago that, if we gather up the chemicals that we think were here on the early earth and we add some electricity (lightening) then proteins form (or, more accurately, amino acids form which are the building blocks of proteins). There may be more recent scientific studies which have continued these types of experiments and found more complex proteins.

    And... there was a news item just last week that the Cassini spacecraft has detected complex hydrocarbons (which is what proteins are) on one of Saturn's moons.
