When Jonah was in the belly of the fish, why does he call it the belly of hell or Sheol in some translations?

Jonah 2:2

King James Version (KJV)

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

The ASV renders that verse:

Jonah 2:2

American Standard Version (ASV)

And he said, I called by reason of mine affliction unto Jehovah, And he answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol cried I, And thou heardest my voice.

It appears that he died and went to Hell while his body was in the belly of the whale.

A great passage to show the no hellers though but normally they just ignore passages like this that show the reality of hell.
