How is this budget battle different?

The previous budget, continuing resolutions and debt ceiling increases (such as the one Senator Obama took part in a few years ago) that justifies no compromise on the side of the president or the calling of Republicans terrorists? Would not President's Obama description of the Republicans been just as applicable with him a few years ago?

Update:

There have been other budget battles where one side tried to get laws passed or overturned. And this one is actually budget related as it is a program that requires money to implement. Postponing it for a year means postponing certain payments for a year.

    The CR had been attached to the Health Care Law which is an unrelated issue - also it's not a bill under discussion; it's already a law.

    To be fair...Obama's stance was symbolic. This is an actual shutdown with an attempt to extort political demands.
