Basic Training and Social Security Card?
Long story short: I ship to Navy Basic on the 18th of next month. I don't have my social security card and with the government "shutdown" I can't order one until they reopen. I can't ship without it. All I have is an official statement from the Social Security office with my name and number on it that I've had for two or three years which was good for enlistment but not shipping. Is there anything else I can do?

Just take the letter. They will understand. You will get one as soon as the office opens.

Why are you waiting till now to deal with this? You should have had this taken care of long before the shutdown!
