my gas pedal stopped working?

i have a 2005 chevy cobalt and yesterday, i had my car parked out by my apartment's mailboxes and left it running while i checked my mail. i got back in the car and tried to back up but my accelerator wasn't working. it didn't rev or anything. i turned the car off and back on about 5 times before it would let me back up, and then i only drove it a few hundred feet to my driveway when it stopped working again and i had to just coast to a stop in my driveway. later, i turned the car on and was able to drive up and down my street a few times with no problems. i tested the accelerator in park and neutral also and it revved like normal. but now i am scared to drive anywhere in case it happens again. i really need to know whats wrong with it, or how i can find out.

your going to need to take that into a dealership to have it looked at. sounds like the electronic accelerator is malfunctioning.

Robert is essentially right, besides the many caps. The car has an electronic throttle, and it has obviously failed. It needs to go to a repair shop. Whether this is a warranty item or not, I don't know, but I doubt it.

I would call GM customer service about a POSSIBLE recall of the computer CHIP that controls the engine.
