What was told to your husband is found in the Bible in the book of Hebrews ,chapter 11: 4, this is showing how Abel was the first man who was sincere in his faith in God. His brother Cain was not sincere in his heart towards God. This faith was demonstrated not only by their offerings, ( back then, a person would make an offering in the way of a sacrifice) to God. So Cain was warned by God not to hate his brother Abel or to harm him. Cain did not listen or do anything to feel sorry for his wrong attitude so as to change it. Instead, he went ahead and murdered his brother Able because he allowed negative thoughts and jealousy build up in his heart until he desired to take his brother's life, then did so. Genesis ch. 4 : 6 through 11. Able who died because of his faith in God became the first faithful human, the first witness of God.If you read the entire chapter of Hebrews 11, it will describe a long list of faithful men and women, Noah, Sarah, Abraham and those apostles and disciples of the Christian congregation of early times. Then read Ch. 12 : 1 describing "a great crowd of witnesses"..... Now as for CT Russel, he was just another Christian disciple in more recent times.
