where is a good place to eat barbecue mutton in Kentucky?
I'm on a four day road trip with the soul intention of finding good barbecue. Would really like to try some Kentucky mutton. Eastern Kentucky would be more convenient but am willing to go anywhere for some good mutton

Old Hickory Pit Bar-B-Q in Owensboro, KY.
Moonlite BBQ Inn also in Owensboro.

My family is from the Northwestern area of Kentucky around Owensboro. Old Hickory and also Moonlite BBQ are great choices in Owensboro although a bit pricey these days. Most of central and western Kentucky is famous for it's Hickory smoke Pork shoulder. It's chopped like Mutton usually and then eaten on sandwiches with onions and pickles. The BBQ sauce tends to be kinda tart and vinegar based....quite spicy. The best mutton, however, can be found at some of the local Catholic Church BBQ's or "Picnics" as they are called in western Kentucky. You need to check out the small towns of "Rome" "Whitesville" and "Knottsville" Kentucky when they have their yearly picnics. You buy a meal ticket and get all of the chopped mutton and Burgoo you could eat....and it's the real deal Enjoy!

I would try an Indian (Oriental Indians, not the Native American folks) restaurant and see what they have. I know they eat a lot of lamb but I'm not sure what the mutton (an older sheep) situation would be like.
Good luck.

Muttton is very popular on the indian reservations in the southwest. Try there or make your own if all else fails.
