Please help me on how I should study!?
hi, I have school exams in a few weeks which are the big ones because our school reports are based on them.
I really need to study, but as a year 7 (first year highschool, I'm 13. I'm not american so don't correct me.) I have never needed to study before, so I don't exactly get what do to. My parents just tell me to read my workbooks but surely that's not all, I still can't remember the stuff...
Also I keep on getting distracted. A lot.
Please give me some study tips so I can get good grades!
:) Thankyou

Hello! My English is pretty shitty, hence I´m telling you now, so you don´t get shocked by awful grammar and what not.
First of, you have to find out what learning-type you are, because everyone percieves new information differently.
Some learn by listening -auditive-, some by seeing and visualizing, some by simply touching or constructing things themselves. So it´s very important to find out first, so you can learn most efficiantly.
Another important point is to make a plan on what and when your going to study.
You should have distinct aims your trying to achieve, while always repeating to learn and to test your knowledge. You also should think about question your teacher might ask you. This always helped me very much. =)
Dont learn for too long! 50-100 minutes is more than enough. When your brain overheats just take a break for about 15 minutes, and your good to go again.
Your brain needs time to process through all your newly obtained wisdom.
Also, learning briefly before test causes your brain to have retroactive inhibitions but thats for another day. So always, always, always take your time, plus get something to drink and maybe a little snack while your studying.
Also try not to drink too much coffein heavy and sugary beverages, they may keep you awake, but they lower your concentration.
(Learning before going to bed is very efficient)
In addition, getting distracted is very bad for learning, it stops the momentum your synapses recieve new information, which causes you to learn worse. It´s somewhat of a viscious circle.
So try to hide all your Mobile Devices, Consoles, Turn off the TV/Laptop/PC and remove everything else that might could distract you.
There are many psychological studies on youtube on how to learn you should check them out.
They´ll surely be in a better English than mine :$
P.S. : Going around while studying, throwing a ball against a wall back and forth in your room and playing with your hair, can also be very helpful as long as it´s not distracting you.
Some people just need to release their energy after sitting and learning, some just need to relax/stop being nervous. I for my part had random learning habits like scratching myself or twisting my hair xD
And last but not least! As hard as it sounds, it´s true... DO NOT immediately watch TV or pretty much anything what requires you to recieve a ton of new information at a time.
Your brain needs it´s time to digest all the things you learned throughout the last hours.
So if you really want to keep your gathered knowledge be smart and just draw something, or phone a budy, just something you enjoy and you can relax while doing. Beause if you do something that demands you to think, or to gain new thoughts and ideas, you might forget everything you just learned in a few hours to days.
Sry for my English, i hope it was bearable =)

If your wear glasses, ignore this answer.
FIRSTLY, CONCENTRATION:
I know this solution may sound a bit unusual, but I find it does help, and I know it helps other people too. And if you're desperate you might as well just give it a go.
Go down to the chemist or two dollar shop and buy a pair of weak non-prescription reading glasses. Now just wear them while you study. You may have perfect eyesight, but it will help your eyes to focus, and your brain will not have to work as hard to process what you are reading. it also mean you are less prone to getting headaches, and let's you study for longer periods of time.
Just remember, this still works if you have perfect eyesight. Just make sure you get the weak glasses.
Send me a message to tell me how it turns out.
BTW, I have reccomended this to other people before, and they liked it.
SECONDLY, STUDYING:
Different people study differently. If you are like me, you would sit there with a textbook, read it and take notes when you come across something important. Other people like to just read. Some like to do things for themselves, e.g. Draw pictures to explain things, solve problems in maths. EXPERIMENT with things, if something doesn't work, try something new. With the concentration method above, studying should be easy for you.
Good luck, message me if you have any questions, as I am happy to help with anything.

Wow, what a tough question to answer. Okay, here it goes, accept personal responsibility, discover self motivation, master self-management, employ interdependence, gain self-awareness, adopt lifelong learning, develop emotional intelligence, and believe in your self.

Do homework right after it's assigned, not right before it's due.
