Why do the English media and public always accuse each other?

of thinking we're going to win the WC??

In 40 years of being an England fan I've never heard a fan in real life, nor a TV pundit EVER seriously think it's a possibility!

Probably Roy Keane is the most upbeat of all the pundits and he's Irish!

I must admit it's mildly amusing how the media get all worked up before the WC claiming 'it's going to be 1966 all over again!' only to quickly follow up with a headline such as 'England out in group stages beaten 2-0 by Moldova' or some such country...

Perhaps we should just admit we're rubbish at football nowadays and concentrate on reporting the sports we are good at, such as Sailing, athletics, swimming, cycling, motorsport etc.

In response to Harry - How do you mean? If that is aimed at certain members of the England cricket team who are South African or Indian in heritage, then it's pretty small-minded. Petersen and Panesar both hold British passports, thus are British. The same could go for any past or present member of the England football team whose parents/grandparents happened to immigrate from Pakistan or Bangladesh - wherever. It's simple - when did the England football team last win a major tournament? Compare that with the last time we won events/races/matches in the other sports and you will see what I mean.

Wot's that, Anon...Sailing, athletics, swimming, cycling, motorsport etc (and cricket), where you'll find a couple in the team who arn't strictly English, perchance?
