Can you get hired without an id or ss card?

I am thinking no.. But any chance?

My bf had a good interview at an upscale restaurant as a server.. Said they were gonna call back today sometime.. But he doesn't have any form of id or an ss card.. I told him he's gonna need both, but he won't listen to me..

Advise?

Thanks

One of the first forms that new employees must fill out is called a I-9 and it requires a copy of a photo I.D. issued by the State or Federal government (Drivers License) and your Social Security card.

    No copies no work period.

Oh, he IS most definitely going to need some form of ID!!! IF he doesn't have a drivers license then he can go to DMV & get a NON drivers license. Oops...he'll NEED his SS card in order to get that ID to prove he's legal!!! Companies have a system where they have to check the legal status of EVERY employee they hire & that requires them verifying & placing a copy in the employee file of the ID & SS card of each prospective employee!!! So, IF it is really an upscale restaurant, I bet they adhere to the rules. IF it's a regular restaurant, they might skirt the system in order to get employees; but they won't treat him very well because they KNOW they are helping him out just for hiring him out of the system!!!

yes everyone must have a legitimate I-9 which requires at least 2 forms of identification.....

  • He may or may not need ID (that's really up to the company), but if they are operating within the law, he will need a SS card.

    You are right.

Tell him to read the I9 verification information to see if he can find enough doc's to get hired. It's possible
