Shipping from Hawaii help?

I am getting an item shipped to me from Hawaii and I live in California. It was shipped via economy shipping and according to ebay it says "economy shipping takes 1-10 days.) Well I bought a nitro rc car off ebay on the 13th(weights 5-8 pounds depending in how seller packaged it) and on ebay it said the package would arrive anywhere from the 18th-26th. Now when I go on the USPS tracking says it will be delivered on November 2nd. So which do I believe... November second seems like way to long... I mean I know the mail goes by boat, but California and Hawaii aren't 4 thousand miles apart.... Any help or similar situations? Thanks.

Update:

This is what ebay has to say on economy shipping/other shipping methods and compares them, so according to them I still do not see why it should take so long. I understand the boat has to fill up, but 18 dollars for shipping and waiting basically a month for a 5 pound item is ridiculous.

1-10 days is normal within the continental US. What happens when things are shipped from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and outside the continental US is that the shipper (UPS) has to have enough cargo on a ship or plane to make the freight cargo 'worth the time and money' to ship (in bulk).

Reasoning here is this: They pay for freight by the weight AND size (volume). If they have 100 tiny packages, they will burn basically the same fuel to fly or ship it as they would 15 big boxes and 150 smaller ones. Not filling the cargo holds is 'wasted space', and will result in less economy & wasted money. This is just the way it is when coming across an ocean... but, also long distance in the USA. The advantage to ordering in the states is there are hundreds of flights and trucks daily transporting packages. Export from Hawaii just isn't as quick, cheap, or easy.

UPS has a very good record of delivery. While it sucks to wait a bit longer for your package, be patient, it will get here. Their date is the one I would rely on. THEY know when to anticipate their own cargo to be sent. Corporate rules prevent them from sending 'light' loads unless it's close to Christmas, and a promised delivery by Christmas is on such packages. This is why they have deadline dates to send your packages. It takes time and effort to move it from point a to point b... with stops in between for distribution centers to particular regions and states/cities.

"economy shipping" means parcel post or media mail. It can take a week to three weeks. November 2nd is probably closer to reality. It's an estimate, not set in stone.
