If I booked a G-58 job , does that mean I cannot be awarded a job that requires a general score over 58?

I have just been booked into open general, G58 in the Air Force. My preferred job is the 4T0X1 - Medical Laboratory job. That is, without a doubt, my first choice. On the ASVAB, I scored a 92 and an 89 in General. I know based on my ASVAB scores that I qualify for that job. But, my question is if I have a G58 job and not a G70 job, does that automatically force me into jobs that are G58 and below? Will I be unable to book the Medical Laboratory job, which requires a G-62 score?

G58 does NOT refer to your General area score

its hard to explain, but G58 is just a code -- used to tell them, your going Open General

and it also tells them, what physical qualifiers you have and if you can obtain a security clearance or not

IE: the different GXX enlistments -- one is used for those with vision better than 20/400 and that qualify for flight duty, one if for those without that vision that are not qualified for flight dity, one is for those with vision good enough to qualify for all general area jobs

also, the weight test at meps -- depending on how much you lifted, determines which GXX option you are assigned

    2. IE: its just a way to tell them in basic, exactly what general area jobs you are medically qualified to do

and if you can obtain a clearance or not

    3. it has no bearing on what your General area score is

As I recall from speaking with an AF Recruiting buddy of mine back in the day, the G-58 is the minimum threshold. So they will place you into a job with a minimum G score of 58, all the way up to your actual G score.
