I'm looking to buy a compound bow....?

I'm not all that familiar with bows, but have been wanting one for sometime now. What should I look into and why? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well you have come to a good place for information. I happen to own a compound bow myself

The first thig you should do is head to a local pro shop and have your draw length checked. Draw length means how far can you draw the string when you hold the bow as far as comfortably possible away from you

Next thing you will want to look at are the bows themselves. Do not worry about price at this point because you are just looking to see if you like the way a certain bow fits your hand.

One last thing you want to take into accout is the draw weight. Basically this is what it will take to pull said bow to a comfortable position. Most bows are 40lbs which is hard to pill back at first but after a week or two it feels like nothing.

Once you have kind if figured out what thise two are then its time to get serious about your bow.

You can find some great accessories for your bow. A trigger release is a great accessory to have because it lessens the wear on your fingers and allows you to be more accurate

String silencers and vibration dampeners. They take vibration out of your bow when you shoot it. Good things to have.

Another good thing to have is a stabilizer. The purpose of a stabilizer is to act as a counterbalance to help eliminate some of the movement that comes with shootn a bow. They come in many weights and sizes so you are going to have to find one that fits you.

Next is the arrow rest. Since you are just beginning all you need now is a basic 2 prong arrow rest.

Last accessory are your pin and peep sights. If ou are familiar with iron sigts on guns they operate on the same principle with the sole exception that multiple pins are used for different distances.

The last thing you want are arrows obviously. Depending on what poundage you get depends on the strength of arrow you get. A 55/75 spine arrow is strong enough for a 40 to 60 lb bow. While 75/95 is better for 60 + lbs bow.

Everything i have deacribed can be found in a bow package with the exception of the arrow and trigger release for an average of 300$.

Last thing to do is get a few lessons from the pros at the shop. Other archers might give you a few tidbits of information too. Listen to them and tou will be getting into a very fun hobby. Who knows eventuay you might be shooting in competitions ine day

    1. What is your budget? Bows can arrange from under $100 to over $1000

    2. Are you looking for a youth bow or adult bow?

    3. What will you use the bow for? Target practicing or hunting?

    4. If you are simply looking for the best bows, you can check the article here:

Research them on the internet...find you a few brands you like..the go to an archery shop to let them help you getting a bow that fits you...in draw weight and draw length...and sell you the proper spined arrows. And let you know what accessories you have to have...

The bow has to fit you, or it is worthless to you. That is why you should let an archery shop help you. They will allow you to shoot the different bows, and let you make your own decision.
