What would be the best short term storage option for this situation?
Our apartment complex will be re-doing the carpet and vinyl flooring in our unit as an incentive for signing another lease. The only problem is that it will take an entire day and we must have our unit completely emptied of all belongings in order for them to do the work. We've been looking at portable storage pods, but the minimum rental period is one month plus the site delivery fee for approximately $175.00. Since we will only need it for one day - two tops - would it be more cost effective to rent a larger U-haul truck for that time and just load it up & leave it in the parking lot until we can move the stuff back inside? are there other options? If so, I'd appreciate your suggestions.
Thank you!

This is so crazy that I ran across this question!!! I just got new carpet in my apartment. I also had to get everything out. The pod idea was NOT an option....ridiculously expensive. So we did exactly what you are thinking. We rented a U-haul truck! The only thing that pissed me off about my complex was that I couldn't leave the truck here. We already have two cars. So I had to take it to my mom's. Even though I still think U-haul is a rip off, it was the best option. Good luck and enjoy your new floors :-)

Ask the office if they have a vacant unit you could lock your stuff in for a day. You should be able to stash some stuff in your bathtub and on kitchen counters. I wouldn't leave anything valuable in the apartment though.
Otherwise, the truck or a large enclosed trailer sounds like a good plan.

If you could arrange a nice day and family for workers at home, you might want to put things in the back yard for the day. But I don't know your living conditions. If you live in the country this would be fine. If you live in the city it would not be a good idea You might have to use the U-Hall idea.
