How do Christians today know they are right when Christians were wrong in the past?
Christians have used the Bible to support slavery and to oppose integration and interracial marriage. Most Christians today, even fundamentalists, would say that they were wrong. Why do Christians today think they're right in using the Bible to deny equal rights to gay people?

They embrace interpretations of the New Testament that support their preconceived traditions of anti-gay bigotry. That's not properly termed "knowledge", but rather "indoctrinated opinion". There are equally valid Biblical interpretations that don't necessitate anti-gay bigotry, but such interpretations don't support patriarchal machismo, so, circularly, they're not part of the dominant (patriarchal) tradition.
Anti-gay bigotry is not a defining doctrine, not even a central theme in Christianity. It is God's will that divisive and inessential doctrine fall away.

Because the Bible flat out says homosexuality is wrong.
The Bible forms the foundation of their beliefs. If they didn't believe in it, they wouldn't be Christian.
And not to nitpick, but Christians generally aren't trying to deny equal rights to gay people. There is a lot of support out there for civil unions - including civil unions that would grant all the same rights as if they were married. The only difference is that it wouldn't be called "marriage", because to them the definition would not include two men or two women.
Gay individuals don't want that though, because the fight isn't over rights. It's about how society views homosexual relationships. They want the relationships to be seen as being no different from the relationship between a man and a woman. Taking the word "marriage" would be a step towards that.
Unfortunately for them, this is one case where religion is correct. Not about it being some ridiculous "sin" or "immoral", but that there is a difference. Even before Christianity was around, homosexuality was not viewed as being the same as heterosexuality. Even in ancient Greece, where it was acceptable and practiced openly, even then they didn't have gay marriage because they recognized the two were different.

First of all. They weren't wrong they just twisted it into making it seem like what they did was justified but clearly it was not. And remember Christians made them slaves but it was also Christians that conducted the Underground Railroad.
Second of all. Its not just the Bible its that no moral code or ethics supports it. This is 2013 we aren't denying them anything we let them have equal rights and civil bonds and if you don't know what a cicl bond is its the same thing as marriage they just don't call it marriage. Their just slapping Christians in the face getting "married'. Marriage is defined as a bond between a man and a woman.

Your initial premise is based on your own assumptions.
The bible teaches nothing about abolition of or keepingof slavery but how to become a true servant of god.
The bible does not teach against interracial marriage.
The bible is very clear on the sin of men with men
ROMANS 1
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
It is a matter of ...... Show me that in the bible. Then you will get the truth.
The FEAR of the Lord is the beginning of knowlege.

Not all Christians are doing that. Yes, many Christians use the Bible to discriminate against LGBT people. But many also advocate for the rights of those in the Gay and Lesbian community. Just look at Archbishop Desmond Tutu who has been an ardent advocate of LGBT rights, and said he would rather be in Hell than a Homophobic Heaven.

A Christian is a follower of Christ. We Christians do not follow old Christians who did terrible things in the name of Christ. We follow Christ, who says all these things are wrong.

Because we all know that if gay people got equal rights then all people would turn gay and the human race would die off. It's science. The bible says so.
Also, haters gonna hate.
