Atheists, where do you get your morality from?
Dont say from my morals, dont say because its for evolution purposes, don't say because its obvious you cant kill, where do you back up your moral grounds? When do you know if what you;re thinking is wrong? How do you question your set of beliefs?
Since morality needs to be objective, (or else anyone will just go do anything that seems morally justifiable to him, don't make me lists examples get an education) where does its basis come from?
Where is that objective morality? Where do you get it form? Not form your feelings, or judgement or wtv, since you cant trust your own judgement or else it will lead to chaos Morally speaking, tell me where do you get it from..

Why would trusting my judgement lead to chaos?
Your problem is that you seem to think that there is an objective moral. There isn't. That is why morals and values change from culture to culture, religion to religion. The major ones stay the same...don't kill others, etc. but that's because those morals keep the community surviving. This comes not from some random god, but from our own judgement.
I'm sorry that you need a god to be a moral person. I do not need a god to be moral. I am a moral person because that is the type of person I want to be.

Morality is not something that can be contained in one holy book. It is something that is kind of floaty lie a good feeling when you are not hurting someone on purpose.

Our morals are from within. We are social animals and we know that the things we don't want to be done to us, we should not do to others. We assert that what is wrong for us, is wrong for others.
Where do you get your morality? From the bible? The bible that preaches for slavery, genocide, women degradation, child abuse, gay bashing?
The bible morals are not applicable for today's life.
Our morals as humans have been evolved as well, we do not hold the same morals as we held 100 years ago, 300 years ago, 2000 years ago.
The thing that distinguish us from animals that live by instincts alone, is our compassion and empathy. (though, I do believe that some animals have more compassion than some of us, humans).

Rational thought and evolved empathy.
It takes about two seconds to rationally figure out why it's *stupid* (notice I didn't say "wrong") to kill people in a society of humans. If I kill people in my society, other people (fearing I'll kill them) will shun me, not do business with me, put me in jail, or kill ME to keep me from killing them. So if I want to succeed in a society of humans, killing others is a stupid thing to do.
The same goes for all other behaviors we consider in "morality."
"...morality needs to be objective..."
No, it doesn't. And it isn't. It's entirely subjective. Your own bible *proves* that -- since your claimed god-thing demanded certain behaviors in the past (bloody animal sacrifices, polygamous marriages, men having sex with their dead brothers' wives to produce sons, etc. etc. etc.) that believers today consider "immoral." How about that, subjective morality.
Stop pretending your imaginary god-thing exists, and is the source of "objective morality." Neither is true.

So your going to ask a question and then tell us what not to say? So basically I know it is wrong to kill. Why? Because I am a human with emotions and feelings and love. Did I get that from a bible or a god? No, I get that from being a human. We have 'morals' from learning, living and life. Don't tell me what I can and can't say about my own morals. I know who I am and how to feel without someone else telling me.

[Since morality needs to be objective] Since you are starting from a false premise, I believe I can easily dismiss you as trivial.
Morals come from society but are relative to that society. We learn morality because if we don't, we get kicked out of society, and so it has been since before **** sapiens sapiens existed.
Religion is a PART of society but not the whole of society, and therefore morality does not come from religion. It comes from religious people and non-religious people who are part of society.
Morality changes over time and therefore CANNOT be absolute. Otherwise, God's directives on treating slaves would still be valid today - but they are not.

You have requested that we not answer your question, but I will anyway.
A group of people survives when they tend to engage in behavior and have feelings and urges that increases the survival of the group, Empathy, caring for the young and weak, and making social connections contribute to the continuation of the group.
We have instinctual (genetic), as well as learned, traits, feelings, and behaviors that, overall, contribute to the survival of our group.
Whether we call them morals, ethics, or just niceness, they still are strong enough to allow families, tribes, societies, cities, states, and nations to exist.
Religion, at best, makes up a story about why we should behave certain ways. Some religions can indeed contribute to survival. But, obviously, religion is mainly fiction, and is not necessary.

"Since morality needs to be objective, (or else anyone will just go do anything that seems morally justifiable to him, don't make me lists examples get an education)"
You mean like they did during the Crusades? You mean like Christians slaughtering Jewish "Christ killers?" You mean like Catholics and Protestants slaughtering each other? You mean like Muslim hoards under Mohammed slaughtering everyone who didn't convert to Islam (the religion of "peace")? You mean like Muslims and Hindus slaughtering each other?
This is objective morality?
Get an education.
- AranthealLv 78 years ago
This is all predicated on the assumption that morality "comes from" somewhere. But morality isn't like a river. It doesn't mean anything for morality to "come from" some source.

"Dont say from my morals, dont say because its for evolution purposes, don't say because its obvious you cant kill"
So, you want us to exclude all possible explanations and then ask us the question? That's a bit unfair, don't you think?
