Is there any chance of being able to introduce one guinea pigs to a pair?

hi, I already have 2 guinea pigs and there is one guinea pig at my local animal shelter than wasn't very well so I took him home and took care of him until he was better. I have kinda of falling in love with him, is there the slightest chance of him ever being able to be friends with my other 2 guinea pigs? Or is it just impossible? If not then I guess it would be best for me to rehome him so he can bond with another single guinea pig. thanks

You can bond a GROUP of guinea pigs - yes.

It is best to introduce them slowly and start by putting them in runs next to each other and see how they react. After a few days you can introduce them in the same area. Placing their hutches or cages next to each other or on top of each other can also help them bond.

If they react well in the same environment and area together, you will need to clean the cage out completely, spray it all to clear the scent of the two that have been in there before so that it isn't just 'theirs' and move them in. You need to make sure that the space is big enough for three to happily live together though and give them all the same amount of attention.

It is generally easier to bond three separate guinea pigs then introducing them into an environment where you have two already bonded, but it is possible.

It is better for guinea pigs to be bonded that are similar ages and size and best not to bond two males but again it is possible.

Perseverance, love and a close eye on them should work but there are some cases where they won't get on and won't bond but you should see signs of this early on if this is the case.

Best of Luck with your guinea pigs!
