What letters are in the dressage ring?
Hi, I would just like to know how many and what letters are put in the dressage arena. Someone told me they were just the first eight letters of the alphabet but I'm sure that's not right. And where are they put? Do they put the letters in each corner and each middle/centre of the arena? Thanks.

No it's not the first 8 letters of the alphabet - would be nice if it was! Here's an image of your basic outline of an arena.

To remember the letters around the outside starting from A going clockwise I've always used the rhyme 'All King Edward's Horses Can Make Big Fences'
There are also letters that you occasionally get inbetween, sometimes used for bigger arenas or a higher degree of accuracy - I'm sure there's a rhyme to remember these but to be honest I've never used the extra letters and don't really know anyone who has.

In a 60 x 20m arena the letters would be: A K V E S H C M R B P F. Clockwise from A.
A and C are at either end of the centreline, B and E are on the edges in the middle. X is smack bang in the centre. There is 6m from the wall up to the first letters (F and K) then 12m between the bigger gaps (between K and V for example). There are the letters in the middle but I'm shocking at remembering them. I would add a photo but I'm on my phone. Hope this helps :-)
