Maggie & Me
Horses are my life and it's impossible for me to live without them. I love everything about them, and I find it extremely hard to go a day without riding. I love to help people every way I can and I am a fully dedicated rider.
What colours look good on a bay horse?
I've had my bay Standardbred mare for about a week and I was wondering what colour would look good on her...
She's my first horse and I was thinking maybe either royal blue or a hot pink.
Some people have suggested hunter green, yellow and red, but I'm just not sure.
Could you show me some pictures (if you have any) of a bay horse wearing one of the colours above? I've searched on google and yahoo answers and have gotten lots of advice of what colours look good on a horse, but I'd like to see it myself.
Thanks :) here's a picture of her to help (sorry I haven't got a picture of her without her rug on but she's a reasonably darkish bay)

I would like a list of all the basic horse jumps and a description to go with each one. Pictures would also be nice :)
3 AnswersHorses7 years agoWhat else do I need for my horse?
I don't have a horse yet, but I want to start looking in on what I need to buy before I get my horse, and what I need to buy after I get my horse.
I've been saving up since I was nine (thirteen now) and I'm prepared to give the horse all my time, attention and effort. My grandad owns a huge plot of land with 180 acres and two paddocks, and he's willing to let me keep my horse there for free as long as I come regularly to look after them, which I will do as often as I can. I'm very dedicated and serious about buying a horse even though I've got a while to go, and I understand the consequences of the best choice for the horse's life to keep him happy. I've been riding since I was ten and I love bonding with the horses at the stables.
Can anyone give me a good description on what I should buy before my horse, and what I should be after my horse? I'd love to know; like all the tack, first aid, grooming supplies. Thanks :)
9 AnswersHorses7 years agoWhat colours would look good on a grey pony?
So this is one of the cute grey ponies at my riding school and I'm in charge of choosing his show colour.
But I'm really stuck on what looks good on a light grey! The best I can come up with is red.
What do you guys think? I don't really want any black but I'm open to suggestions :)
He's a boy so I'm not too sure about pink either xD

17 AnswersHorses7 years agoGood names for Shetland Ponies?
One is a really light palomino with a spunky attitude and big brown eyes. He's had his
operation and he is the cutest little thing! He smiles for us on cue.
The other is a Pinto (dark brown with white patches) and has the longest mane ever! He's very lazy and eats 24/7.
Any good name suggestions? Thanks :)
5 AnswersHorses7 years agoGood names for Paint Horses?
One for a skewbald (brown & white) Paint mare, and one for a piebald (black & white) Paint gelding. Thanks for all answers! X
8 AnswersHorses8 years agoGood stretches to go through before warming up horse?
Just some stretches for the rider. I'd like to know some good stretches before I warm up to help improve my flexibility or something? Any suggestions would be great :)
1 AnswerHorses8 years agoWhat to name a five day old foal?
He was born last Wednesday and he has turned out to be a really, really light bay, but he'll probably grow into either a dark bay like his dam or a blackish brown like his sire. He is five days old and doesn't have any markings at all. He is a very healthy foal; sleeping and drinking a lot. Any good suggestions for his name? So far we really like Hugo.
6 AnswersHorses8 years agoWhat letters are in the dressage ring?
Hi, I would just like to know how many and what letters are put in the dressage arena. Someone told me they were just the first eight letters of the alphabet but I'm sure that's not right. And where are they put? Do they put the letters in each corner and each middle/centre of the arena? Thanks.
3 AnswersHorses8 years agoWhat are all the movements in dressage?
I know a couple like shoulder-ins and pirouettes, maybe figure eights and spirals too (not sure if they are actually dressage maneuvers) but what are all of them? It's killing me, some of them are on the tip of my tongue... please help and list as many movements as you can, thanks.
2 AnswersHorses8 years agoWhat saddle is best for me?
I'm looking for a saddle that's good for everyday pleasure riding but will still be fit for jumping, and I thought an all-purpose would fill these categories. But I've been told by a few people that an all-purpose isn't very good for all of what I've listed, apparently. They've suggested an actual jumping saddle, but I'm not too sure. Would an all-purpose be good for jumping, and will a jumping be good for pleasure? I probably won't jump much though, it's just something I'd like to get into every now and then. I'm going for a second hand leather saddle, is that best? I know that leather lasts longer and a second hand is a little cheaper. Is Baites a good brand or maybe something different? I am an english rider. Thanks
2 AnswersHorses8 years agoWhat show name would suit this horse?
Frosty is a creamy Snowflake Appaloosa with specks of white dotted through his whole body. He has a black mane and tail with a white stripe. I have come up with a few show names like Winter's End and Speed Supreme, but does anyone know anything better? Thanks
4 AnswersHorses8 years agoWhat are your horses names?
Totally random, I know. I'm just bored. My lesson horse is called Frosty, anyways! :D
15 AnswersHorses8 years agoAm I Ready to Have a Horse Yet?
I have been riding for three years now and have been studying and researching them nonstop. I'm trying to memorize all the poisinous plants and weeds towards horses at the moment and know a lot about each type of breed. I know how to walk, halt, trot, canter, jump, serpentine, change direction, saddle up, groom a horse, pick out their hooves, untack, comb their mane, and I've been experiencing different horses. In the last three years I have ridden four different horses and I know how to clean tack - by the way, should the tack be cleaned once or twice a month or more often? I'm learning how to muck out and I ride every week. My grandparents have a farm with 200 acres and two huge paddocks. We are going to fix up the fences soon and remove the barbed wire, fix up the rabbit holes and search for plants or weeds. My grandad is a builder so he can build a shelter for the horses and even a few stalls, and he has experience with horses. I'd probably be able to visit the horse maybe once or twice every week. I am saving up for the tack, first aid kit and grooming kit and so far I have $200 in my bank account. My grandparents will buy the horse and I will take full responsibility whenever I am there. I will save all my money for vet bills, farrier bills and possibly equine dentist bills. I have all the proper riding attire (jodhpurs, riding boots, Onyx crash helmet, polo top) and I am searching for a second hand leather all-purpose English saddle & bridle (is that best?). I maintain a healthy bond between my lesson horse and me, and I know to always warm up and cool down the horse for at least 5-10 minutes before taking them in. I love horses and I would always put them before me.
Am I missing anything? Am I ready for a horse or do I still have lots to learn before I can take up the responsibility? Honest answers please. I need criticism and feedback. Thanks.
