What colours look good on a bay horse?

I've had my bay Standardbred mare for about a week and I was wondering what colour would look good on her...

She's my first horse and I was thinking maybe either royal blue or a hot pink.

Some people have suggested hunter green, yellow and red, but I'm just not sure.

Could you show me some pictures (if you have any) of a bay horse wearing one of the colours above? I've searched on google and yahoo answers and have gotten lots of advice of what colours look good on a horse, but I'd like to see it myself.

Thanks :) here's a picture of her to help (sorry I haven't got a picture of her without her rug on but she's a reasonably darkish bay)

I was fond of lime green, hot pink and a goldenrod yellow - they a all great and stand out well, so do reds, blues, greens and whites.

Keep in mind how much work you will be doing when using bright or light tack, it has to be cleaned or washed out often to keep that 'new' look.

Depending on what discipline you are in or if it's just a barn pal and all around horse might help you decide. What my kids ended up doing was trying to match everything they will be needing - everything from polo wraps, rugs, breast, cinch, breaching straps, blankets, buckets and tack boxes, tack handles etc. one of the girls picked lime green, one had everything red and my son picked aqua for his red roan appy.

If you want all matching things see what you can get the most of in one of your favorite colors, if it doesn't matter then find a magazine with the different colors tack, cut a strip of the color the color choice and lay it up against the picture and see which your like the best. That's what I have done in the past - it works pretty good. I usually save navy and black for the lighter colored horses, however you can sew different color ribbon on the black bridles to have something unique when you ride. You can also sew on 'jewels' and rhinestones on the brow ends to make them extra fancy if you want.

Just ideas of what we have done in the past.

    Good luck

I've always been a fan of dark green on dappled greys and bays.

Other colours you could consider are plum purple (the colour of a ripe plum), a darker red, turquoise?

Nothing wrong with plain black or white either.

I really like baby blue on my bay gelding. I have also used a wine-colored red, lime green and royal blue.

Deep reds look good such as maroon or burgundy. Bright colors look amazing, such as lime, pink, turquoise, and orange.

Cool jewel tones go best with bays, so shades of greens and blues will work.

I still love neon lol: my gelding

Green is always a winner! Or burgundy, brown black, most dark cours suit as well as white! Not really a fan if the bright reds/pinks etc :)

Bays look good in most any color, so if you like the color, chances are it will look good.
