I would recommend killing them or if you don't like killing animals then put it in a glass and take it somewhere far away from your house!

It's amazing how anybody ever survived childhood, what with all the Terrible Dangers that the papers keep discovering. You're in the UK; the only problem spiders there are when once every decade or so a bad biter turns up in a bunch of grapes or bananas fresh off the boat. Don't let the papers and their wild-eyed stories get you all worked up; it's just silly froth. If you're not worried about the gap in your back door from a heating point of view, there's no reason to worry about it from a spider point of view.

Take a pic and post it so they can be identified, or catch one and bring it to a garden center for identification.

cover the gap with wood, if you can't do that get an experienced builder or just get your toolbox

Not much danger at all really, they are very non-aggresive, and their poison isn't bad. Just media hype.
