1 AnswerClassical5 years agoCan you keep these two scorpion species together?
So I might get my hands on the Striped Bark Scorpion (Centruroides vittatus) and the Chinese Armor-tailed Scorpion (Mesobuthus martensii). Since both of these scorpions are relatively social, with the same general size and lifestyle, could they be kept together at little or no risk of "cannibalism"?

6 AnswersCameras7 years agoHow can I find a Brown Recluse?
Living in the Houston area, in the Brown Recluse Spider's range, I have not seen any sign whatsoever of a brown recluse. I've flipped rocks, peeled bark, flipped logs, looked in crevices, etc. Also, Houston does not have any naturally occurring rocks, and all that shows up on the surface is topsoil and various rock piles from construction projects. Does anybody know a place or a technique that I can use to finally encounter one of these spiders?
2 AnswersZoology7 years agoGnamptogenys hartmani raiding?
Gnamptogenys hartmani is an ant that raids the fungus growing ants Trachymyrmex and Sericomyrmex. My question is, do they raid the also fungus growing Cyphomyrmex as well?
I found Gnamptogenys harmani ants, and owing to the fact that Cyphomyrmex rimosus is abundant here, I'm wondering if they are just raiding the Cyphopyrmex.
2 AnswersZoology7 years agoEarwig Identificatio?
Found this earwig under a log in the Houston area. Everything is right for the ringleged earwig- size, shape, antennae. However, the rear end is red colored, and the legs are not striped the way I am used to. Also, this was noticably larger than any ringlegged earwig I had seen in our area, but it fits sizes for the species, at about an inch long.

Found under a rock in Houston TX. A relatively small colony, and slow moving, however, still contained some amount of ants. seemed to be very vulnerable out of the ground, as a few minutes later, some little black ant workers started attacking. About 1/8 in.
