It was for the nation of Israel. They were in a covenant relationship with God, but they were engaging in pagan purification rites in special gardens. They were eating the flesh of pigs and other creatures that were considered unclean under the Mosaic Law. When Jesus arrived, the Mosaic Law was no longer needed.
