Was Troy Aikman a great QB or just a pretty good one?

I have no personal opinion on this, just wondering what others think.

He was an decent game manager who benefited from teaming with outstanding players to help him inflate his stats.

Even then, Aikman by the numbers reveals that he was an average quarterback playing under the best possible circumstances; he was the Eli Manning of his era.

Corrado: He's 23rd all-time in completion percentage; hardly one of the "most accurate qb's of all time". And his kids are ugly.

    And he's a crappy analyst.

    A great QB.

Nowadays people just look at stats and say "nah, they are not that impressive".

Back in the early 90s before there were websites like Pro Football Reference and everybody could look for stats at every time, he was considered one of the best in the league by people who actually watched him play.

Aikman had the most polished mechanics of his era and threw the tightest spirals.

His numbers were not as big because the Cowboys played a lot of ball control. It was Emmitt Smith the guy with the inflated stats, Aikman and Michael Irvin actually had lower numbers than some of their contemporaries.

He was a GREAT QB even though I can`t stand Dallas. Emitt and Michael needed him just as much as he benefited from them. The "triplets" were all equally GREAT at their positions IMO.

I do remember hearing Aikman had/carried 1 of the ALL TIME highest QB ratings EVER. Not sure what ratings have to do with accuracy, but he seemed pretty damn accurate to me. I used the eye test to judge. Lol

Great QB. Really strong arm and great timing and rhythm thrower. He was similar to Dan Fouts who also ran the Air Coryell offense. He was pretty accurate especially on the tough throws down the field. And even if you just look at it statistically, only Young and Montana had a higher completion % in his era. And that mind you was in the original quick drop West Coast offense, whereas Aikman played in the Coryell offense which made its living on the deep comeback, dig route and skinny post. He gets somewhat of bad rap because he played on a talented team and is often thought of as more of a product of the guys around him, but that offense doesn't work without Aikman.

One of the best in the 90's. But he wasn't as good as Steve Young, Dan Marino, Brett Favre, or John Elway in my opinion.

    If a ''pretty good one means'', .. ....... .. . ...

✱ 3 Time Super Bowl Champion,

✱ 6 Time Pro Bowl nominee

✱ 1 Time Super Bowl (XXVII) MVP

✱ Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor inductee

✱ 1st Overall Pick of 1st Round NFL Draft, 1989

....then yeah, he is a quote, ''pretty good one''. Not everyone can play under the proverbial big lights.

Not even Peyton Manning can call himself a 3x Super Bowl winner.

Great clutch quarterback. Super Bowl MVP.

4 tds 0 ints in his first superbowl.

Great QB considering he had to play for Johnson & Schwitzer, and had to deal with their owner.

What Eric B said plus he was one of the most accurate qb's of all time.
