some ppl tell me that majoring in computer engineering is the wrong choice?
This is my first semester in university, and I majored in computer engineering. some people tell me that I made the wrong choice, since computer engineering is only about computers which are not used much nowadays, they are replaced by tablets, smartphones, ipads and so on.
but I think that computer engineering is not only about computers, its about anything computerized. which is hardware engineering or software engineering. and nowadays alot of things are computerized! correct me if I'm wrong, do you think these people are right? did I make the wrong choice?

They are full of nonsense. As you said, it is about anything with computing components. It is true that solftware may be replacing hardware in some devices; it is up to you to gain some competency in software as well as hardware, but your program will allow room for that to happen.

That was my major. I've never been short of job opportunities except for a couple of months after the dot com bust in 2002.
You get a little programming, a little database, a little rf electronics and some other stuff thrown in. It gives you a great base to start from and you can work at any layer of the stack. I've done everything from write code to administer systems to supporting sales teams.
