In a Magic the Gathering commander deck can "Ambush Commander" be the commander?

it isn't legendary, but it has commander in the name, so I thought I'd ask.

Update:

I was mostly asking since I only have a few Legends.

The "official" rules state that a commander must be a legendary creature. However, EDH/Commander is a casual format which means that if you really want to and everyone agrees upon it, you may make a house rule that states you can use it.

The thing here is that there is far better green elves that are legendary that would make excellent commanders. Ezuri Renegade Leader and Rhys the Redeemed are both better.

No. Only legendary creatures can be commanders.
