86 Jeep v6 gaining oil??
Every few weeks, when I check the oil, there is slightly more than last time. 2 weeks ago, I changed it, put in 4.5 qts instead of 5, and today it is over full by 1/2 qt. And it is extremely clean, almost hard to see on the dipstick. Could it be the fuel pump? The oil doesnt smell gassy.

That would be the 2.8 chevy (and yes these had a mechanical fuel pump). Does the oil seem thinner than normal? I am curious as to whether or not this is an automatic, I remember something years ago about a car or truck that was sucking trans fluid up into the engine.

the fuel pump don,t have anything to do with the oil ! are you sure your parking on a level surface everytime you check it ? are you waiting long enough for the oil to settle down before checking it ?now if you have a mechanical pump it could be letting the gas get into the oil from a busted diaphragm but that would prevent it from starting if the pump was ruined !

Do you have a carbureted engine? then it could be the fuel pump if it smells gassy. check you oil cap and dipstick for white foam, and also check your coolant levels. its possible your head gasket is leaking

always check oil before starting in morring .true reading .and still get higher it can be fuel pump diaphragm on a manual fuel pump .. and leak in head gasket or intake manifold. so check radiator level as well when cooled
