What is the history of Vetrap?
Why, when and how did Vetrap come to being?
I quite vaguely recall a "new" product by the name of Vetrap coming out when I used to have ponies and then horses. When it first came out it was very expensive and I think it only came in one color (was it white?). I think it was specifically for the use on equines at that the time and it's uses for other animals and humans grew from there. Now it is rather common place in both animal and human medicine/first aid and even in some sports for preventative measures.
Can anyone clarify my memory?
Thanks in advance....

It's been around for at least 35 years. I remember my friend using it on her horse's badly injured leg. The original was made by 3M. Like many things, it was first used in the animal industry.

Vetwrap is a version of cohesive bandage (type of fixation bandage) that was originally developed by manufacturers in the textile industry working in cooperation with human physicians. We were routinely using various cohesive bandages in human orthopedic medicine well before it was separately branded for the veterinary market. I probably first encountered it in the late 60s or early 70s (I'm not sure when). Some vets were undoubtedly using cohesive bandages all along, just as they used (and still do) many human medical products and devices in the practice of vet medicine, but again, cohesive bandage was not initially developed or marketed for use in veterinary medicine, and it was not until later that it was mass produced for sale in the veterinary market.
