How to get my dog to stop biting?

I have a Red Cattle Dog. He is only about 8-9 weeks old, but he wont stop biting. I can't even pat him now because he just tries to bite my hand. How do I stop him?

I've raised three of these little alligators. It's in their blood to nip, so they take a little extra effort. I used stuffed toys. Whenever they would try to bite me, I'd say "NO" firmly and shove a toy in their mouth. Do it ever time. These guys are smart. Work on basic obedience (with treats). Sit, stay come, down, roll over, etc. Do it every day at least once. They love training.

It's very important to socialize them. A friend with a puppy or a playful dog would be great. Helps burn energy. I also took mine for walks (in a safe area not frequented by other dogs) from the get go. They naturally heel.

Don't give up, they turn into great dogs. With consistency, you can get the biting under control. I also gave mine a half a bully stick every day. Kept her busy for quite a while. Good luck!

The pups only 9 weeks of age, all this puppy knows his how to bite/play, poop, pee and sleep. Biting for puppies is totally normal and your dog is just being your typical young playful puppy.

Find him some toys he can chew on and stop placing your hands on him where he CAN bite you. At 9 weeks of age, this puppy has a lot of learning to do before he associates biting with being a bad thing. For now, the puppy isn't biting you to be aggressive, puppies bite litter-mates during play and the puppy is simply trying to "play" with you.

Find him something to chew on like treats or toys. *MAKE SURE, these toys are NOT from China as Chinese treats and toys are killing hundreds of dogs a year. Keep the dog away from you and confined in a crate or play pen and push the puppy away and don't give it attention when it bite. This puppy is very young and you have a LOT of training to do.

The biting is typical in puppies and especially with the cattle dog, they are instinctive with biting because they used to nip at the heels of cattle to herd them. Still, it's essential to curb this nature at a young age to prevent future issues.

What you can do is put butter on the back of your wrist everyday and reward your puppy with love every time he licks instead of biting.
