Is it just that I am older or were the Chips Ahoy cookies much better when I was a kid.?

I think as we age our palettes mature. So the things we loved as kids are no longer as tasty. I noticed the sizes are smaller also.

I loved Twinkies as a Kid. My mother bought me a box about 3 years ago because she remembered how much I liked them. I took one bite,didnt even swallow it...spit it in the bin. Thought how could I have liked these.. Nasty!!!!!

Our sense of taste changes as we age. One of the changes is it becomes less sensitive. So, little kids don't like pickles, for instance because the taste is too sour, however as those kids grow older, their sense of taste changes and suddenly they don't find pickles taste as sour as they used to.

Another change is that everything is made with corn syrup now, instead of plain old sugar. That definitely changes the way things taste. If you get a chance to buy some Coca-Cola that was made in Mexico, or special "Passover" Coca-Cola, you'll notice it's made with sugar and tastes quite different than the stuff we usually get in the stores that is made with high fructose corn syrup.

Finally, another change could be that as kids, we weren't picky when it came to sweets. We'd eat anything even if it wasn't very good just because it was a special treat and therefore it tasted good. Take you and the Twinkies, for instance. Most of your memories aren't about how they tasted, but about the times you were allowed to eat one, right?

I think this is due to the changes in the food manufacturing industry, 2 fold.

one, I think it has to do with cheaper quality ingredients, money being a driving factor for that.

two, I think that a part of it is to do with the unnatural, artificial fats, all the modified crap, the stabilizers that they get away with selling because they call it low fat!! and we buy right to it! figure that one out, anyway.. and the crazy preservatives too. now i'm not even that old but I can remember when I was a kid, they were bigger and better and the ingredient list definitely didn't have as many letters.

Yeah they were better. Now everything is cheaper quality and made like crap. Archways used to be way better now they taste like cheap shortening and jam. Look at burger king years ago and now, uck!
