Are atheists the best potential believers?
Ok serious question for all the trolls and other regulars. It occurred to me that perhaps atheists simply never wanted to answer the question of whether they believe in God or not. This is because an answer in the affirmative would mean they would have to change their ways and habits. If they say there isn't a God, they can live however they choose. But if they say there IS a God, then they would have to live according to His command.
This is significant because it shows a self-awareness that they would follow the command of God. Many people who call themselves believers don't even know what God's commands are, let alone follow them.
BQ: Are atheists unwilling to say God exists because they know they would change their lifestyle in the way a true believer should?
I'm not assuming that you deep down believe God exists, I'm saying if you were to decide in that way and it became a deep-rooted belief, you would change your lifestyle to meet the command of God.
Also, let's not start the "give me proof" stuff, that's not what I'm pointing out or asking. If you suddenly had proof, you wouldn't need faith. Faith is belief without proof.
I've just realized something else, and that is that atheists are just as indoctrinated and narrow-minded as the worst Bible-thumpers. :| I had hoped for more openmindedness and courage to look inward.

Most atheists (yes, most) used to be religious themselves. I'm one of them. In fact, surveys suggest that atheists know more about religion than their theist counterparts.
Atheists do not believe in god because for whatever their personal reasons are, they cannot bring themselves to actually believe, and to fake it is to live a lie.
Also, anyone can believe in a god and still do whatever they want. After all, all they have to do is ask for forgiveness.

There was a time when I did not identify as an atheist. I did not believe in any gods, but I did not really research the issue either. It was only after I looked into it that I even realized that I was an atheist. I think that is true for a lot of us. That we did not adopt this label until we did afair amount of research. So, we are likely pretty hard to convert.
As for a lifestyle change, if it is the Christian God that exists, I would not have to change much. Perhaps an hour per week in church and tithe instead of donate to the charities I do now.

I'm hoping to answer your question but I'm finding it a little vague, so I apologise if my answer doesn't reflect what you are after.
For myself I never asked myself if I believe in God however if asked I would say no. Not because of how it would affect my lifestyle but because belief would require a significant amount of cognitive dissonance. To change my day-to-day lilfe would be fairly inconsequential beside the much more significant development of a faith based belief system.
"Faith" to me is merely gullibility wrapped in a pretty name. I don't take anything on faith as I find the truth to be much more important. If a Christian wants to tell me that God exists then they have a burden of proof to demonstrate it, yet it always comes back to "it's true because the bible says it is".
Well I hope that helps with your question at all.
Stay safe and be well :)

Your alleged god does not exist. The traits that you attribute to it are contradictory and represents aspects of human psychology far better than any supernatural being should. I am uninterested in what commands you claim come from the mouths of men speaking on behalf of your alleged god.
You problem is that you do not care what is true. You prefer your comforting fables. I have no use for faith. I actually care about what is true and as a result, I don't actually believe anything. Those ideas that I accept as true at this time are entirely dependent on the quality and the strength of the evidence. Faith is simply not relevant when you want to know the actual truth. You have no evidence and your kind never has.

Counterpoint: maybe Christians haven't even considered that there might not be a God because an answer in the negative would mean there is no happy farm up-state where dead relatives and pets go because they believed hard enough. Also, I've never met a Christian who actually followed all the rules of the bilbe, which is good because they'd have to murder children with stones every so often.

This atheist used to say God exists. Did it for 15 years or so. Belief dried up.
Only difference between the way I live now and the way I lived then is, I no longer think I can do bad things and ask forgiveness, do some penance and be freed of my sins. Now I hold myself accountable for my actions.

It's not an unwillingness to say God exists, it's a lack of belief that any such beings exist.
There are many atheists who would be believers and Follow his word if only there were some evidence of his existence. Not all atheists are little hormonal teenagers who cross their arms and stomp their feet while shouting, "I DONT WANNA"

I do not really think I would have to change my ways and habits much if I believed in the Christian God. When I was a Christian, they were not much different. I used to go to church and pray, but apart from that I do not see that I would have to do (or stop doing) much else.

No, we do not believe that God exists. It's not a cHOICE, it is a rational realization.
Incidentally, since most Christians don't follow all the instructions of God, I don't know why new believers would need to?

most atheists lack belief because of no evidence to warrant belief. Given that, your entire first paragraph falls apart. I think this also answers your bq as well...
Lack of evidence. That's all it is. You are way off in your rant. You are trying to come up with some grand explanation when it's as simple as not finding evidence to bother believing.
