Hardly the best. Ortiz comes after Williams, Yaz, Pesky, Doerr and Cronin.

"...he helped the boston red sox to a world series title after 95 years...." - ???

You need to catch up on the history of the Boston Red Sox.

add: In another one of your questions you claim to be a diehard Red Sox fan....

How short sighted can you get? Do you know anything about the history of the Boston Red Sox? Apparently not! Have you ever hear of Ted Williams or Carl Yastrzemski? Ortiz doesn't even come close. He's not even a complete player as he is primarily only a DH. He just happened to have a great world series, that's all.

You don't even have your facts straight. Boston has not won a world series from 1918 to 2004. That adds up to 86 years. Since then that have won 3 including this year. Learn something about the game before you post another incorrect comment.

    No.

If we're talking about players who played a majority of their career for the Red Sox, that's still Ted Williams. I would probably put Pedro Martinez above Ortiz as well. His late 90s early 00s years were the best ever for a pitcher.

If we're talking about players who played for the Red Sox for any portion of their career, that's Babe Ruth.

Is he on pace to finish with 500+ HR / 1800+ RBI /.344 AVG?

Can he play the field 150 games a year?

Did he give up three years of playing time to serve his country?

He might be their best-ever DH... but he's far from their "greatest player"

He's far from being their best ever. He doesn't play the field. Would never last in the NL. On top of that he's a proven user of PEDs. Most fans would consider him a cheater. But not in Boston.

    Yaz, Williams, Lynn.

Someone that is named in a report that had tested positive for PED's at one point can't be looked at as the best ever at anything.

    Great player...yes

Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters in baseball history.

    No. Carl Yastremski

I would rank him behind Williams and Yastremski at the very least.
