Animal farm is relatively short and moves at a pretty good clip. You'll be able to read it in 2 or 3 days easily, think on it a bit and then re-read to confirm or belie your initial thoughts. Look at when the book was written and try to match the characters with real-life persons of that period.

To Kill A Mockingbird is also a great book, but the action drags and is a little easier to lay down and forget about.

Lord of the flies and animal farm are AMAZING. My favorite books ive ever read. Lord of the Flies is really hard to understand only reading it once. Its about a group of young boys that crash land on a desterted island during WWII. It displays the breakdown and chaos of society though these very young boys. I didnt like it until i read it two years later. I liked the book because it is so dark and mind baffling. It kept me on the edge of my set (literally) the second time i read it. Animal farm is a very interesting book that closely resembles the russian revolution told through farm animals. I liked it because it makes you think and again it can get sort of mind baffling. I hated to kill a mockingbird. It was so slow and for me i couldnt relate to any characters at all. It may have been because my English teacher "sucked the life out of it" by forcing us to subsearch and annotate and not enjoy the story. But Animal farm and Lord of the flies are among my favorite books ive ever read.

Animal Farm or To Kill a Mockingbird. They aren't the MOST entertaining books ever but they will help you so much in the long run. It's the books every kid/teen needs to read before becoming an independent adult. It teaches politics, philosophy, equality. They are both equally interesting and educational and any teen should read them. I hope I helped. :)

I read the first three, and to me To Kill a Mockingbird is by far the best. My two kids that have also read the first three agree! The story is told by Scout. Just want you to know that Scout is a girl - my daughter thought she was a boy for half the book. :-) Her father, Atticus, is totally awesome. What a really good book - probably longer than the other ones, but it's such a great story that it goes far more quickly than the others.

I really think To Kill a Mockingbird is the right choice for the assignment. I read it when I was young, but I really enjoyed the part when Harry finally killed Voldemort. It's a good choice overall! :)
