Why do you replace the Y on the X Y axis with F(x) thanks

    Because y is a function of x. If you are graphing a line y = x + 2, you would conventionally label the horizontal axis as x and the vertical axis as y. However, you could also write y as f(x) =x + 2, so instead of labeling the vertical axis as y you could just label it as a function of x, f(x) [i.e. the value of y depends on what you input for x].
