Is there a person per bedroom regulation in Davison, MI?

I have searched for some time to find out if there are any restrictions regarding a number of persons per bedroom in a rental.

I have yet to find one in city, district(genesee county), or state regulations. Is there a site that may specify something of this nature?

Side note - if there are no such regulations, could a landlord create such a regulation within their complex?

Update:

The limit is 2 tenants per bedroom according to my landlord. I was looking to house myself, my fiance, and my 2 year old daughter..

Update 2:

The toddler WOULD have her own bedroom, while my fiance and myself would make the living room a bedroom/living area, as you would with a studio apartment. This is an often occurrence and I've not heard of the 2/bedroom law up until this point.

Update 3:

I'd also like to add that this is an apartment complex. Would there be a go-to person who may be willing to negotiate this situation?

Update 4:

Could anyone send me to a website that I could easily navigate through to find such information? There doesn't seem to be anything that specifies the tenant laws and regulations.

Update 5:

What I'm not understanding is the how the lack of bedroom in a studio apartment isn't equivalent to the lack of a 2nd bedroom with 3 people in a 1 bed apartment?

Again - I would be very appreciative to the person who is able to answer this with sited regulations or laws to prove this illegal or otherwise.

Not aiming to be rude, or to make anyone do my research for me(I really am trying to locate this). I am sincerely seeking more solid information in the matter.

Update 6:

What nobody is currently doing is telling me HOW to find this occupancy codes or regulations. They are nowhere to be found unless there is some keyword that I am just not aware of.

If anyone could PLEASE give me a hint on how to locate this information I would be very appreciative! Thanks.

Update 7:

The occupancy codes were just a safe measure before attempting to negotiate with the landlord. No point in attempting if it is illegal.

Look at your local occupancy codes and/or fire codes. The landlord can also limit the amount of people allowed in his/her property. Making the living room into a bedroom is is likely against fire code laws. Tell your boyfriend to get a second job and spurge on a decent 2 bedroom.

EDIT: You would have to call you local building department and fire marshal. Either way, the landlord can limit the amount of people that occupy his property. You will not find a law on this...since it is his right as a land/home owner.

Yes, the owner of the property can have their own rules. It is their property after all. 2 per bedroom is standard.

If you are looking for laws there should be multiple ones, fire codes, health codes, and child protection laws (yes, CPS can take the child for this, as you are talking about neglect).

edit, after you added the livingroom data

Sleeping in the livingroom is illegal everywhere I can think of. Fire codes require bedrooms.

Why not rent a 2 bedroom apartment? You really don't have much of a choice. You had a kid, so now you need to provide that kid with housing. That is part of the commitment when you decided to give birth.

Your 2 year old must have her own bedroom. Only ghetto people have their toddlers sleep in the same room as parents.....don't be ghetto!!
