I rode a bicycle the other day 20 miles, I should ride more but I laid around all day next few days,

the really most difficult thing is what I am doing right now, my life is so wrecked, I live in a very bad place where the people are not my cup of tea, plus I have all kinds of things in storage and I need to get them somewhere and I really need a nice place to live where I can be comfortable it is very difficult having to forego the activities and enjoyments that I could be enjoying. oh the overall worst is not being with those who I love and who care for me and would never let this happen to me

Giving myself permission to enjoy life in my own way is difficult. I always had to be busy and now if I sit and read, I sometimes feel like I should be doing something constructive. Others who are not yet retired, and some who are, seem to want to draw me out of the home that I love, into some social event that I find silly and totally unnecessary for any reason.

I don't find random mingling, eating Jello salads, bars and pie enjoyable, as I can prepare tasty desserts and eat them all myself or save a few crumbs for those who don't care if I don't comb my hair or if I wear my slippers all day....such as the pets.) I love being alone. It's so peaceful.

Okay, a silly answer, but it's true. The most difficult thing for me that last few years of not working is to actually make myself dinner, instead of just taking a tv dinner out of the freezer.

A couple of days ago I actually fried some talipia, mashed potatoes and peas. It was lovely, much better than the other things.

My tax returns! As I am a dual citizen and resident of both the US and UK I have to file with the IRS by April for each calendar year and submit "self assessment" forms to HM Revenue and Customs by October for each fiscal year (April 6 to April 5). There are so many things that are difficult for an octogenarian, but none of the others are quite as time-consuming and difficult as income tax returns!

I spent 2 years helping my late wife when she was ill. After her surgery, the nurse, and the people that were supposed to help, only came by when it suited them. I changed dressings. I drained the bottles. I fed, bathed, and cared for her. I injured my back and both shoulders. Still no reliable help. They were congratulating each other on helping us, but they were NOT there when requested, or needed. The entire US medical profession, is for profit only. We don't matter. This was a hard and difficult lesson to learn. These 2 years were probably the most difficult of my life.

I have had difficulty in learning to relax and remember that my day is my own. Kids all capable of caring for themselves and their own offspring (I can be just a visitor now in their homes and not a carer). No paid work to do so I can please myself what I do or help out as a volunteer where and when I want. I can eat what I want when I want etc. It's difficult to change old habits though but I'm getting there slowly.

The most difficult thing that I try and regularly do is to cut my toenails,

I manage after a fashion, but need to take analgesics afterwards.

Attending the funeral of a much younger relative was pretty difficult.

    You expect to 'go' first.

Trying not to overcook just for the 2 of us. I always cooked when the kids were here and now I am learning how to cook in much smaller portions. My son was last to leave(you know teenage/young 20 men-and how they eat)I swear our food budget has halved. I am learning new ways to repurpose food so that what leftovers I have are just as interesting the 2nd time. A work in progress.

The hardest thing I've physically done as a SC, was to climb behind my clothes dryer and unhook the lint-keeper tube from the wall and clean it; then re-attach the whole thing and climb out.

Realising I'm one. Trouble is, I feel as though the 1960s were maybe 10 years ago, perhaps 20 years ago at most!
