Mel Brooks. Mel relates to us all. Woody Allen only relates to snobs in NYC who think they are superior to the rest of us.

I'd love to say Woody Allen but the whole Soon-Yi thing just killed it for me. I find Brooks too unsubtle personally.
If you haven't seen it, I suggest you watch Vicky Cristina Barcelona, while not your typical Woody Allen film, his brilliant directing shines through, it's a real pity about the whole Polanski-esque air he's shrouded in.

Both are great writers and directors, but I feel Mel Brooks has abandoned us by not making movies anymore

Both were anti religious jews, meaning they were born a jew and lived the culture but neither had a believing faith in God so it makes no difference.
