I just went to the doctor for having the same kind of pain. My doctor told me that if it was cancer the lump would not be painful.
So it could be these things: fibrocystic breast (what I had) which is usually a painful lump and will come and go. Nothing to bad I even had an ultrasound done to make sure. (It was 700$) eek!!
2nd: a cyst. Cyst are very common and painful, if they get to bad they may have to be drained. There common and non cancerous.
3rd: an infected hair folicle. I had one in my arm put (from ingrowns) and it started hurting to my arm pit then eventually reached my breast. I had to get on antibodicts to get rid of the infection.
Moral of the story it's not cancer. But it could be numerous things. Wait a few days and if it continues see a doctor.

Most of the time, painful lumps are not cancerous. I had one and it went away. I would be more concerned for her if she had a lump that was NOT painful. It could even be a lymph node or something...
