How do you balance this equation?
__MnO4- (aq) + __Fe2+ (aq) + __H3O+ (aq) --> __Mn2+ (aq) + __Fe3+ (aq) + __H2O (l)
The question asks: What is the coefficient for Fe2+ in the balanced equation. When I balanced it, I put an 8 in front of H3O+ on the left hand side of the equation and 12 in front of H2O (l) on the right side so that each side had 24 H and 12 O total. Thus, the Mn and Fe didn't need any coefficients. But according to the answer key, the coefficient for Fe2+ should be 5. Why?

1 AnswerChemistry5 years agoWhat does it mean for an X-chromosome deletion to be lethal when hemizygous or homozygous?
In the fruit fly (D. melanogaster), a known deletion on the X chromosome removes both a gene involved in the fly's development and the gene for eye color. The deletion is lethal when homozygous or hemizygous. Flies that are heterozygous for the mutation are viable, but have indentations at the wing margin. Therefore, the deletion is named the Notch mutation. The allele for wild type eyes is dominant over the allele for white eyes. Predict the phenotypic ratio of the offspring from from a cross between a white-eyed notched female and a wild-type male.
a) 1 wild type female; 1 notched female; 1 white-eyed male; 1 white-eyed notched male
b) 1 white-eyed female; 1 notched female; 1 white-eyed male
c) 1 white-eyed notched female; 1 wild type female; 1 white-eyed notched male; 1 wild-type male
d) 1 wild-type female; 1 notched female; 1 white-eyed male
3 AnswersBiology5 years agoShe she look better before surgery?
I think she looked much better before, personally. Not only did her nose change, but the rhinoplasty made her upper lip longer and almost monkey-ish and I think her nose tip actually looks wider, not narrower, after surgery. Am I the only one who sees this, or do you agree? I also think she looked more feminine before...
