If you use Kickstarter to fund a political campaign...?

...would contribution limits apply?

Say your Kickstarter project is to start a run for political office, for example, governor. You set your target as $1 million before you will officially run for office. Would the people who contribute to your Kickstarter campaign be required to abide by political contribution caps if your political campaign hasn't technically begun? Are you even allowed to fund a campaign that way?

Update:

Roosevelt, that doesn't answer my question at all.

As a person who works in the media industry I really don't want to see Kickstarter being used to fund politicians. It's bad enough Hollywood driven projects are raising money on there, adding politics to that would ruin everything.

You need to declare your candidacy before receiving funds. Then, file an independent EIN for the election race. The funds are monitors and reported. Any funding larger than $1000 has to be reported with 2 days of receiving money. Its called Transparency and Campaign Finance Act.
