What is wrong with my cornea?

One of my eyes is larger than the other, and the cornea on the bigger eye has a visible bulge at the front, right over the iris and pupil. It's not a smooth curve, it looks like a sunny side up egg. There is no discolouration and my vision is not affected. My eyes have always looked that way and my father has the same thing, so I believe it is genetic and not a disease.

Can you get an eye exam?

    Possible reasons:

    1. Just a slight difference, maybe just a regular anomaly of your body, no need to worry. (Ever notice the American actress Shannon Doherty has one eye a LOT higher than the other? Or Mila Kunis has two different colored eyes?)

    2. Megalocornea

    3. Kerataconus -- if it IS this, you need to get it diagnosed and treated.

    4. Thicker than average cornea, which could mean:

    a. nothing at all (see Answer #1)

    b. Fuchs' Dystrophy

    c. various other corneal dystrophy

The eye doctor can do an actual measurement of your corneal thickness. It takes only seconds to measure, and doesn't hurt at all, but you may need to be the one to ASK for the measurement to get done.

P.S. Diseases or certain conditions CAN be genetic
