Veteran's day : Question for Veterans/ current military person!?
I would thank all veterans and current officials for their service to our country and for taking their time to answer these questions:
What branch of service do/did you serve? What is/was your rank? Why did you choose this branch? How long have you served? What was your job? (is there a story you would like to share?)
If yes:
Who was involved? What happened? When did this occur? Where did it happen? Why is this a story that you will never forget?
Thank you !

I served in the U.S. Army for 4 years, before being medically discharged for a training related injury (I hit a tree branch in excess of 30 M.P.H., it hit me in the head, my helmet saved my life!). I was an E-4 Specialist when I was discharged, and I was well on my way to E-5 Sergeant. I chose the Army because of it's heritage, and it's the oldest branch (we had an Army before we were even the United States).
I was what is known as a 74D, CBRN Operations specialist (CBRN means Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear). We were called to respond to the incident at the TEPCO Nuclear power plant in Fukushima shortly after the Tsunami hit it in 2011. Our company responded providing support in the form of decontamination of both personnel and equipment. After we received our orders to go to Japan, we were gone within 72 hours and our equipment was sent immediately after we were (we had LOADS of decontamination apparatus that needed to get packed properly, and sent over to us). I'll always remember this because of the lives we potentially saved by our operations, as well as the fact that I was at ground zero of one of the WORST nuclear disasters in the world's history! I hope you enjoyed this, and that it is what you were looking for!
