Is anyone else annoyed by Spanglish?

I agree with it being disrespectful if you are around people that don't speak both languages. However, I do spanglish at times when in company of friends that are fluent in both languages. To me its ok if you are in group that understands...not out in public and DEFINETLY not when translating...I have seen an "interpreter" and I use the term very loosely go between the two languages when translating to a group of spanish speakers.

I'm never really known anyone who doesn't know at least rudimentary (up to about level 3) spanish or french so I always just mix my vocabulary.. Like I might say half a sentence in english then half in spanish or french or i might just use one word in spanish or french or I might just use interjections and exclamations in spanish or french. it helps with emphasis and getting certain points across. It's not rude even if they don't understand, unless you actually are chismeando. What a perfect example- A lot of people I know don't actually use the english word for "gossip" or "gossiping", they use chisme and chismeando. Same with the word Machista, but there's no good way to translate that anyway.

I haven't greeted anyway in english in months and that's just becoming a part of the culture now. I'm sure it's quite a bit amplified here at my university, but it'll spread. English is not about to blend completely with Spanish, not even close, but why would that be so bad anyway? It's not an abomination, it's just how things go.

If someone feels more comfortable speaking in another language, or half so, who am I to say "you can't do that. that's rude. it makes me feel like you're chismeando about me."

Also you said spanglish decreases the value of spanish, but that's just one way of looking at it. I think spanish is actually making english better. And why can't english be making spanish better too? Well, that's just a matter of personal opinion.

Spanglish is spoken by a particular group of people who are straddling two cultures - that of their Latino immigrant families and that of the larger US majority. I don't think it's intended to be offensive and in fact resembles creole languages that are found in many parts of the world. I personally find it less annoying than some of the other slang dialects that have sprouted up in the US, which are intentional misusages of English.

English is a combination of multiple languages already, that is how english works and evolves it takes words from other languages and makes them it's own. All languages are constantly evolving, spanglish is simply the result of two different languages coming together and will probably become the dominant language (or a variant there of) spoken in the USA sometime in the next 30 years.

Spanglish is horrible xd. I hope that no country ends up speaking this language.

I agree with you, I have a cousin who speaks Spanish fluently because she was born in Mexico but she speaks "Spanglish "

Examples: Lee los messages y vas a ver que I'm not lying".

"Sólo falta que se bañen together".

It irritates me, I told her the other day "People who speak "spanglish" are embarassing, they sound so stupid and ignorant" Now all she speaks is Spanish whenever she talks to me 'cause she knows it annoys me to hear her speaking "spanglish".
